Not Every Word

Not every word you say will be insightful.

Not every word will mean what you intend.

Not every word will be clear, not every word will be necessary.

Not every phrase will be parsimonious, not every idea will be fully elucidated.

But the alternative is silence.

Say what you think, every day. Share the insights you have; as a teacher, as a parent, as a member of society.

Because every word you don’t say won’t offer anyone insight, meaning, clarity, necessity, parsimony, elucidation.

Not every word I have said here meets those  above criteria, but I keep going because I think some small percentage does. Join me in celebrating 3 straight years of daily posts here. Not one day missing. I’ll hit a quarter-million words in the next couple weeks.

Write long enough and you definitely achieve insight, clarity, and the rest – sometimes.
