The question shouldn’t be “What’s next?” It should be “Which is next?”
When you finish a project, you are invariably asked “What’s next?” Often, that is an unwelcome question – you’ve just poured all your energy into getting a project out the door. Why in the world would you be ready to answer questions about the next project?!
But when you do get to sit and think about what comes next, the best place to be is to have three or four ideas to consider. That’s why I’m always trying to come up with more project ideas. When I’m ready to begin a new project, I can look at my ideas and see what I am really excited by. That’s a good compass direction to follow. It hasn’t got the attractiveness of novelty, which wears off in time. It’s attractive because it speaks to your creative heart.
