When you have a different interpretation from someone else, when do you offer it? It depends on the situation, naturally.
If I’m observing my students run a rehearsal or sectional, I’m likely to offer my advice right away.
If I’m observing a respected colleague, I’m going to save it for later, and I’m going to offer it in the form of a question. “I noticed you made this choice; can I ask if you’ve considered this approach?”
If I’m watching a performance, I’m probably going to save my own interpretation for the next time I do the piece, and refrain from even mentioning it to anyone else. (Except maybe my most trusted co-interpreter, with whom I discuss everything.)
