In a well-run choir class, there’s no such thing as busywork.
From vocal warmups to sight reading to music literacy skills to repertoire rehearsal to good news and story time; everything is placed there intentionally to advance the growth and success of the singers.
Indeed, everything is is designed intentionally for the growth and success of the specific singers in the choir.
Because busywork isn’t busywork for everyone. Classmates might have considered busywork things that I struggled to master with plenty of practice, and vice versa. It’s the challenge of teachers to challenge every student exactly where they are – balancing remedial students with advanced ones.
And it’s the privilege of choral educators that they can specifically tailor their teaching to the students they have, resulting in consistently right-level challenges. In other words, no busywork.
