I’ve seen repeatedly the following education aphorism: “Getting mad at people for making mistakes doesn’t teach them not to make mistakes. It teaches them to hide their mistakes.”
If tests can’t be retaken, then students are not rewarded for learning except on a prescribed timeline. Don’t you want them to learn?
If students are punished for singing wrong notes, they will stop singing out. Don’t you want them to sing?
If your curious and brave child makes a mistake and is punished, they’ll start making their mistakes out of view of you. Don’t you want them to always be able to come to you for help?
What’s the meta lesson you’re teaching in the way that you teach?
