The branches on every deciduous tree in my yard are hanging so low right now. After days of rain, every leaf and every stem has absorbed as much water as it can, and the net effect is hundreds of extra pounds of weight for every tree. When the rain stops, they’ll slowly spring back to their old position, but in the meantime, they sag.
Humans consistently demonstrate emotional and intellectual connectedness to the people around them. If a lot of emotional weight is placed on our shoulders, we react – even if it’s not our own weight. We sag.
It’s good to know that we’ll lift back up once the rainstorms end, but in the moment, it’s hard for a human – or a tree – to not feel demoralized by the weight of the rain.
