This is my third Leap Day since I started publishing daily posts on creativity, music, and education. The last two Leap Days, I published challenges – one-page forms you could fill out and mail to your future self.
Today is no different, and I’ve updated it with future reflection. Because I think the magic of this Leap Day, for me, is how it lets me connect into a longer time scale than usual. On a typical day, if I’m thinking beyond a yesterday-today-tomorrow time scale, it’s mostly a last year-next year scale. On February 29, I get to think back to last Leap Day. Oh gosh, that was 2 weeks before we started the COVID-19 shutdown. The Leap Day before that? I hadn’t started at GRCC, my oldest child was only 7, and many things were different about my life. One Leap Day from now, two of my children will be out of high school and the third will be close. See what I mean? The Leap Day has a way of showing larger trends.
Lean into it, and take 5 or 10 minutes to complete this form and send it to yourself. I will tuck mine into a drawer and open it in 2028. I encourage you to do the same, as a tiny time capsule.
