When students quit practicing, it’s for a lot of reasons. But one of the big ones is that they can’t perceive any impact; without noticeable growth, it’s hard to compel yourself to keep going. Now, anyone who has used practice to grow knows that progress is often slow and imperceptible, until it’s fast and massive. We keep practicing not because we changed today, but because we know that all the days together will add up to something.
It’s a recipe for succeeding in whatever is hard. Whether you are facing personal problems, societal struggles, peer issues, or some other challenges, showing up even when you’re convinced it’s not making a difference is the key.
It’s making a difference. Keep showing up.
