Jazz Harmony & Rhythm For Choir Nerds v.1.0

Today was my first time delivering a new talk about jazz harmony and rhythm – the intent of the session was to provide the tools needed for choir directors to confidently tackle vocal jazz repertoire. I called it the “Next Session” – all the topics I hadn’t had time to cover in previous vocal jazz reading sessions.

I already have notes for future presentations of this talk, but as promised, I’m posting the talk here for anyone interested. It was a massive info-dump: a semester worth of material in 50 minutes, with barely a pause to breathe. Hopefully having the materials available here will allow repeated review and internalization of the concepts.

Here’s the Keynote File.

Here are PDFs of the presentation (sorry for the animated slide wonkiness):

Thanks to all who came to talk music theory at 8am with me! Stay tuned for future presentations of the talk – new and improved!
