There is a resignation to realizing that you’re the one who’s going to have to get something done. Maybe you’ve been meeting about a goal without action for months or years. Maybe no one is raising their hand in rehearsal. Maybe someone has dropped the ball and there’s no time left for anyone to do it but you.
In any case, there comes a moment when you realize: it’s gonna have to be me.
There’s a resignation there, yes: it means more work. It might means sleepless nights, or early alarms, or being the focus of people’s complaints when you don’t do it the way they want it done.
But there’s also hope. Good things happen almost exclusively because someone says, “It’s gonna have to be me.” That’s the moment when something good gets created.
It’s gonna have to be me is true leadership.
