Summer is the best time for teachers to think about advocacy.
Music educators almost never have a the space for big-picture thinking about advocacy. They’re too busy with the day to day of leading programs, fundraising, planning and performing concerts, and – oh yeah! – teaching.
Over the summer months, as educators have a little more time (not a lot more time, as my friend Jon Van Eck once explained), I’m going to be creating little projects aimed at advocacy. Advocacy for your program, for your department, for your profession.
I’ll give a small prompt or suggestion every month or morning until Labor Day, with the hope that you can act on it in less than 30 minutes and make a meaningful impact on the future.
