Choirs don’t work without implicit trust.
Implicit trust here means absolute, complete trust – regardless of circumstance. (There are a handful of people I trust implicitly in all situations, and many more I trust implicitly in certain situations.)
In a choir, we must trust each other implicitly, at least within the music. I can’t sing your part while I’m singing mine, so I trust you. and if I don’t have absolute trust in you, my own performance will suffer from that lack of trust.
And so, we must build trust even as we build musical skills.
My ensembles trust me to be there for them when the time comes, and my students trust each other to do the preparation work as they do their own.
I think one of the truest signs of an ensemble’s potential is the trust they show.
