I heard auditions today for the Rockford Aces – outside, distanced, masked.
They were auditions – nerve wracking in the best of times, and probably doubly so when the singers haven’t had sung with a choir since at least March.
So I simplified my audition protocol, I removed aspects, and I tried to make singers at ease. I devoted a large chunk of my 10-minute audition slots to (masked) conversation.
But most important for me at the end of the afternoon was this:
I cannot overstate the joy of being in the same physical space as students. Wow wow wow.
I have more auditions tomorrow and then I will begin piecing together an ensemble and creating safe protocols for making music together again.
I. Cannot. Wait.
