I Have Nothing New To Say

Do you ever feel this way in rehearsal?

“I’ve taught everything I know how to teach. Everything I know, I’ve said.”

When I start to feel that way, I remind myself these things:

  1. Repeat yourself – the turnover of students is faster than you think. In other words, I haven’t necessarily said everything to these students.
  2. Repeat yourself – just because you’ve taught it doesn’t mean they’ve internalized it.
  3. Repeat yourself – if it is worth knowing, it’s worth saying again and again, to underline its importance.
  4. Repeat yourself – you can say the same thing in even a very slightly different way, and reach someone new.

You might not have something new to say, but you’ve got important messages to deliver, nonetheless.
