It always comes as a surprise.
I’ve been leading ensembles for a long time, and I’m perfectly confident in my skills from the podium, and yet there’s always a period just before my first rehearsal after a break: a period when I’m pretty certain those skills don’t exist anymore.

Well, I finished my first rehearsal of the Rockford Aces on Friday night, and I was delighted – delighted! – to find those skills still intact.
Of course, I wasn’t really worried….just a little uncertain.
