I ask my students to write down six goals each year for retreat – three personal goals that they want to achieve through the Aces, and three goals they want to see the group achieve.
These are the three goals I shared with the Aces last night as my own group goals.
- Empower them to reach their potential. No ratings goals, no specific achievements. Simple to say, difficult to achieve!
- Release our sixth album. And begin work on our seventh. Albums don’t get done without speaking them into existence, in my experience.
- Build an ensemble based on intrinsic motivation. I want the ensemble to work, grow, and achieve through harnessing their own intentions, rather than through top-down extrinsic motivation. I believe strongly that this will create a lasting difference in their musical future.
