Your only job on the first day of break is to stop.
Stop. STOP!
For all educators, and especially music educators, the sprint between Thanksgiving and Winter Break has been unrelenting. Concerts, dress rehearsals, deadlines, spirit days, and increasingly stir-crazy students are just a few of the many challenges you face.
I, for one, have a tendency to want to ease into break, gently slowing down from my 110mph pace while remaining productive. It’s the wrong call. What I need to do, what you need to do, is to stop.
Tomorrow, maybe, you can begin to move again. The first day of break is for stopping.
