There are a lot of reasons for feeling unmotivated. Knowing the correct reason can help you take the correct action in response.
Maybe you’re unmotivated because:
- You’re overcommitted and have no free time —-> carve out space for yourself and see if motivation returns.
- You’re no longer interested in the project —-> when appropriate, step back from the work.
- The project feels too big to tackle —-> take the smallest viable step, and then take another.
- The deadline is so far away, it has no urgency —-> build a timeline for yourself with smaller intermediate goals.
- You’re ill, injured, or otherwise incapacitated —-> take the time you need to recover, and forgive any time lost.
