Leadership means asking for feedback to spur your own growth. That’s why I’m doing my first-ever exit interviews this year.
I get faculty evaluations at the college, and I get feedback from students and parents in the form of emails, notes, social media posts. But this year I’m going beyond that for frank conversation about how to make my work more effective in the future.
I think that self-reflection is essential to growth, and as a humble teacher-student, I must keep myself open to the fact that there is always room for improvement and growth. Beyond my own self-reflection, I want to be open to feedback from my students, who are the only ones in the room as much as me. I want to hear what works, what inspired and motivated them, and also what I can do better.
I’m excited…and a little nervous!
