When I’m getting ready for day one, I’m focused on excitement first.
I know I’ll soon be in the weeds – teaching notes and rhythms, teaching ensemble, teaching tuning and theory and 1,000 other things.
But that’s not what I’m focused on in my preparations.
I’m focused on the excitement of the first chord.
I’m focused on the excitement of the first “aha” moment.
I’m focused on the excitement of the new friendships forged in music.
I’m focused on the excitement of giving music experiences to students.
Everything else will come.
