When do you get excited to start again?
For me, it’s about 90% of the way through a project. That might be an arrangement or composition, a rehearsal process, or a school year. In each case, at the point I’m mostly through, I start dreaming about the next one: what I’ll do the same, what I’ll do different, how I’ll start.
The trick is to feel that excitement and not to let yourself get distracted from actually finishing. The finishing is what makes it worth starting at all.
But I do let a small part of my brain daydream about the next one, even as I work on wrapping up this one.
