It’s perfectly healthy to feel and express big emotions. Sometimes it’s a teacher’s job to create the circumstances.
I mean, I won’t say the Farewell Concert is created for the express purpose of making choir students feel feelings. It’s for celebrating a successful year, honoring outstanding achievements, and heading into summer with one last musical moment.
But the big feelings are there, and they’re appropriate, and it’s a blessing to create the opportunity to express them. Singing in a choir is, maybe above all else, an exercise in feeling and expressing emotions through song. Giving a chance to end students’ time in choir feeling and expressing their own emotions is always a beautiful sight.
