You’re most likely to quit your practice regimen right after the day you break your streak.
Streaks are a great motivational tool, but no streak is failsafe, and no streak lasts forever. But our brains can trick us into thinking that missing a day of practice is a sign that we aren’t going to make it. “Why not just quit now,” we rationalize. “We’re just going to fail anyway.”
Knowing this, it is so important to not put too much stock in a streak, especially at the beginning. Your streak will probably start and skip several times before you find a groove. On the day after you break your streak, double down on your practice. Otherwise, you might never get going again.
Don’t quit when you break your streak. Just start counting all over again. Keep going.
