Curation involves assessing a lot of artistic works and selecting the ones that work together cohesively.
To me, while there is room for intuition and spontaneous composition, the most successful composition is a form of curated improvisation.
I give myself the time to experiment, with my inner critic turned off. I might sing a text a hundred times, trying different rhythms, pitches, etc.
My curation process is simple. When the phrase comes out the same several times in a row, I think I’ve probably found my phrase. If that’s not true, I turn on the inner critic and consider the options I improvised, selecting one that I think is effective.
