What gets you excited from attending a conference?
I’m counting down the hours until my rehearsal tomorrow afternoon. I’ve got that post-conference excitement that I think most music educators feel in the days after the conference.
What’s funny is, I didn’t attend any sessions this weekend. Indeed, I haven’t attended a conference session at the Michigan Music Conference in a decade. But I had plenty of the three kinds of experiences that I think make the conference inspiring.
- Watching a great educator at work.
- Seeing well-prepared ensembles perform.
- Spending time connecting and talking with like-minded teachers and musicians.
Thanks to the humans this weekend who paid into these experiences. Especially Rosana Eckert, the All-State Jazz Choir, Duane Davis, Bridget Sweet, Becky Selvidge, and Matthew Arau – among many others. Each conversation, each moment of music helped build the excitement I feel for tomorrow’s rehearsal.
