The last safe place for communal singing is sporting events.
It’s too bad, because singing is part of our birthright as humans. I agree with Bobby McFerrin, Alice Parker, and Dr. Oliver Sacks that singing is probably more innately human than anything else we do.
It’s too bad, because no one singing “Sweet Caroline” or “Blue Moon” is thinking first about the music, about the magical connection that happens when we singing together.
But we can’t ignore that singing together brings people together, and if that’s happening while there happens to be a football game, that’s still great.
Any chance for people to sing together is one worth taking advantage of.
