My newest arrangement is now in print!
“Castaways” is a great bossa nova tune that happens to be have been written for the Nick Jr. show The Backyardigans” in 2005. It later became a TikTok meme in 2021.
I thought it had fantastic potential for a vocal jazz arrangement – especially one that would feature the kind of close 4-part singing I love from The Manhattan Transfer.
The arrangement ended up straightforward and fun to sing – perfect for high school and college groups looking to add something lighter to their repertoire. There is no tongue in cheek in the arrangement – just vocal jazz straight up. So it’ll be fun for the Backyardigans generation and their parents, but also entertaining for those unfamiliar with the song. Like I said – it’s a great tune!
