Is that rhythm bouba or kiki?
The Bouba/Kiki Effect shows that humans associate certain spoken sounds with certain shapes. Namely, bouba shapes are more round and kiki more pointy.
I feel a similar association with rhythms. A swing or tied-triplet rhythm feels strongly bouba to me, where as a dotted rhythm (especially a quicker one, like dotted eighth-sixteenth) feels strongly kiki.
Knowing this is a strongly observed correlation, we can use this reference to elicit performance attributes. “Make this phrase more kiki” for example, or “Can these dynamics be more bouba?”
