Anyone can teach you.
For example, today is my dog’s 12th birthday. Perhaps you don’t expect a rescue dog to be much of a teacher, but when Bijou entered our lives six years ago, she had an agenda fit for an all-star teacher.
She taught us the value of being outside daily – through 4 miles a day in the sun, rain, or snow!
She taught us how even a standoffish dog can be a therapy dog to those who need it, and she taught us how to respect other dogs boundaries as we met other dog owners who didn’t respect the ones she needed.
I remarked just today that my relationship to rain when I’m caught outside is different now, thanks to Bijou.
Teachers sometimes look specifically for other teachers to learn from; but really anyone can teach you. Your students, your colleagues, your family, your dog. All can be fantastic teachers, if you’re willing to listen.
