It’s Monday! That means taking a minute to advocate for music education.
This week, we’re pivoting from looking backward to looking forward. We’re planning your choir’s publicity for the entire upcoming school year.
Step 1. Create a Spreadsheet and name it Publicity.
Step 2. In the Header Row, make the following columns in this order:
- Event
- Date
- Article
- Social Media Month Out
- Social Media Week Out
- Social Media Day Of
- Social Media Day After
- School Email
- Other
Step 3. In Column A, list all the major calendar events you have for next school year.
Step 4. For each event, you can fill each cell with one of the following:
- URL of a Google Doc for an article or email draft. (Hint, you don’t have to wait until the concert is upon you to write the article. Write a draft in the summer, and just polish it before you send it out for the event!)
- Caption for a social media post, list planned pictures if appropriate.
- X for not using (for example, I’m not sending out a School Email for every event. Just the important ones.)
Take advantage of last week’s work. The article you wrote is going can become the draft for a whole series of articles you’ll write this summer for the year ahead.
Publicity is often the best advocacy we can do. With this spreadsheet, you can plan your entire year ahead of time, getting hours of work done when you have free hours to do the work.
