Advocacy Monday #1

It’s Advocacy Monday #1! Let’s start with a straightforward one: email your administration.

Here’s a sample email. Send it to all applicable administrators – superintendent and assistant superintendents, principal and assistant principals, arts admin if you’re lucky enough to have one.

Dear Your District Leadership Team,

I’m writing with a snapshot of the impact of our vocal music program this past school year.

Our high school choirs presented 4 full concerts, and an additional 13 concerts featuring some ensembles; attendance at those events reached approximately 4,000.

Our students participated in District and State Solo & Ensemble events – 13 soloists, 4 small ensembles, 4 large ensembles. Many received top ratings for both performance and sight reading.

We had a total of 23 students participate in Regional, State, and All-State Ensembles.

The musicals we presented featured over 100 students in the cast, crew, and pit; many of the performances were sold out and in total we had over 7,000 attendees.

Students in our choral music program felt a sense of belonging, experienced culture, history, and creativity as they built leadership, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.

The true impact of the choral music in Your District is much greater than the things I listed above, but I hope this helps portray the way that the choir program in Your District is making a difference in the lives of students.

Remove what doesn’t work, edit what does, and add what you want – then send it! The only way people are going to hear about the great things your program is doing is if you say them.
