Did you do everything you wanted to do today?
Of course not. Me neither.
But I make it a point not to view that as any kind of failure – organizational, professional, creative, personal. It’s just an inevitable part of having a lot of things you want to do.
Rather, I try to reach for a longer timescale. Did I do the things I cared about this month? Have I made progress on life goals this year?
No, I haven’t composed this week, even though I wanted to. But next month I will have more time, and I trust that as long as I remember my priorities and am clear about my goals, the day to day pressures will balance out and I’ll do the work I care about.
