How much ego would you sacrifice for student success? I wrote this to my students today:
“In the spirit of ‘My ego is less important than your success’, I made you these part recordings.”
I work fast, and I don’t sing professionally. I definitely don’t sing soprano professionally! But sung part recordings can be a significantly important tool for success, especially for groups that don’t sing together very many hours a week. So I did my best, ignored what could be better, and sent them off. They can all laugh at my soprano singing, and then get to work learning their notes and rhythms.
I’ll do just about anything to ensure the success of my students. Wouldn’t you?
