One of the best things you can do for your students is tell the world about them.
This can take a lot of forms, but regardless of what you choose, it’s important to remember that it’s your job to be a press agent. Many people are interested in receiving publicity about your students’ musical achievements; only you are positioned to write about them.
Are you doubting the value of the time? Make a list of who is interested:
- Community members.
- Administrators.
- Parents.
- Students.
- Colleagues.
- You.
- Local newspapers.
When I’m not sure I’ll write the article or craft the social media post, I think about that list.
In an ideal world, there would be someone whose actual job it was to tell positive stories as you spent your time teaching. Until that day arrives, learn your local paper’s publication schedule, develop some social media savvy, and get to work. It’s good for everyone.
