The unavoidable happens – a momentary lapse in focus, and the choir is suddenly singing two different phrases at once.
No matter how hard you prepare your ensemble, these mini-disasters strikes on occasion. There are multiple steps with multiple time frames to consider.
- Get the choir back together!
- Give the choir perspective afterwards: You survived! Failure doesn’t have to define you, and as emotional as you feel, it wasn’t the end of your life.
- Work to recommit to more effective practice ahead of concerts, and focus in concerts. Now you have something to point to when singers shrug off the importance of practice and focus.
These sorts of mishaps happen to every ensemble. They’re universal. What isn’t universal is the response you take afterward.
