The magic of tour!
It’s experiencing new cultures. It’s performing in new venues. It’s moving at breakneck speed, because you know it’ll be over soon. It’s getting away from the routine. (I didn’t wash a single dish in Spain.)
But you can’t always be on tour. And as much as one loves the break from routine, it’s important to learn to love the routine – even the dishes! – that must form the bulk of your life.
It’s like concerts – you can’t only love performing if you want to enjoy a performing life. You’ve got to love practicing, too. In the same way, you have to learn to love all the quotidian things that fill life between tours.
For me, travel helps me appreciate the day-to-day more. As much as I loved every aspect of my concert tour, I was excited to get back to my daily life. Even the dishes.
