I’m excited to be presenting a session next week at the MSVMA Summer Conference, titled “Why, What How: Removing the Barriers to Programming Vocal Jazz for Your Concert Choir.”
It’s one of my passion projects to help conductors find routes to making jazz attainable with their concert choirs, especially outside the context of a “Spring Pops Concert” – as part of the meat of their repertoire. It’s why I wrote my book!
In this session, we’ll be delving into these three big questions:
Why should you program jazz repertoire in your concert choir?
What repertoire should you program with your concert choir?
How should you go about programming it successfully?
It’ll include some singing, a repertoire list, and lots of conversation. It’s going to be a fun time and it’s definitely not aimed at only jazzers.
