No project was ever finished without compromise.
No piece of architecture, no poem or translation, no choice of home appliance, no musical work. Raising your children requires compromise, and so does teaching your students.
The important question to ask, then, is: where will you compromise.
You have a list of values in your head that you want your ensemble, your creative work, your project to reflect. Which ones are you willing to bend on, just a bit? Which ones are you unwilling to bend on?
If you don’t know where you’re willing to compromise ahead of time, you’re liable to end up compromising on the wrong things when busy or stressful moments come. Better to know, so you can make decisions that reflect your vision and your values.
