What would it take for you to commission a new piece of music?
It’s not the money: you are a choir teacher: you know how to fundraise.
It’s not the contacts: you know a composer or know someone who does. Even if you didn’t, you know how to find them through ACDA or their website.
It’s your comfort zone. For most conductors, commissioning isn’t something they’ve done often – or at all.
Commission once, and you’ll commission again. Sometimes it will be remarkable, sometimes it will be disappointing. In all cases, it will be an education for yourself and for your choir members.
Commission for your students. Commission for your professional community. Commission for your heart.
Commission because it will elevate the world.
