The best artistic experiences for me have three things in common.
I’m used to working to make art with young artists – you spend a lot of time in process, and not a lot of time approaching unqualified artistry.
So when I want to experience something artistic that I did not have a hand in, this is what I look for.
- Creativity. I am looking for something I haven’t seen or heard before, at least not precisely.
- Artistry. I am looking for something polished to a shine. Whether or not I like it, I don’t want to have a ready critique.
- Passion. I am looking for art that makes me feel. (Laugher/tears/chills, it doesn’t really matter)
I saw a play tonight that left me crying laughing, and met all three of these criteria. It was creative, artistic, and passionate and I’m so glad I saw it.
