Three Recurring Details

We’ve just started a lovely new piece and are sight reading a section at each rehearsal. But we took some time out after reviewing the first section this week to identify three recurring details and decide on our approach to them. In our case they were:

  • Moving lines with eighth-note pairs. (Emphasize.)
  • arpeggios starting on beat 2. (Grow through them.)
  • Echoes of the T2 melody in the T1 part. (Identify and make it feel like an echo.)

It only took a couple minutes as an ensemble to recognize and decide on how to treat these three recurring details. Now we can apply our approach even as we sight read the rest of the piece.
