Other album releases will be getting most of the press this weekend, and I don’t doubt that TS’s album is a quality release (I have a Swifty in the house, so we’ll be listening to Lover quite a bit in the near future). But for me, Thirsty Ghost from Sara Gazarek is the album that’s going on repeat.
Standards, covers, and originals, all through her sophisticated, mature prism. It’s a potent album, and one that will reward repeated listening. Listen, for example, to what she does with the Dolly Parton classic “Jolene” – she has found new depth and new layers of meaning, in her bold and powerful interpretation. I can’t stop listening.
