The Value of What You Do

Choral educators: no one else is going to let the world know the value of what you do.

You’re too busy? Guess what, so is everyone else: your principal, your superintendent, your colleagues, your booster board, your students, your accompanist.

They’re all too busy to get the word out, and they’re also less invested in choral music education than you are.

So it’s up to you. What can you do, simply and quickly, to explain to others the obvious value of what you’re doing?

  • Make sure it gets written about in your local paper.
  • Send out a quick monthly email too all of your parents with a link to an article about the value of music education.
  • Make sure you let your superiors know when your concerts are, and that you’ll be recognizing them from the stage.
  • Better yet, invite community members/local politicians/civic leaders/administrators to be involved in the concert – introduction, narration, award presentation, etc.
  • Never, never, never go an entire concert without talking about the value of what your students are learning.

You know the value of what you do, and you’re the only person who will ever consistently be able to spread the word beyond your students and your professional colleagues.

Do it!
