I didn’t have a concert tonight.
More precisely, I didn’t have the concert I planned – several of my students put together wonderful jazz solos to fill some of the time that Shades of Blue was set to perform in. Unfortunately, a quartet and Covid-19 don’t go together well.
It’s too bad, because they have worked really hard all semester to master some delicious and difficult repertoire. But these are the time’s we’re living in. This virus, and the risk it continues to pose to our population, is necessarily more impactful than we wish it would be.
Doing the responsible thing sometimes means losing things you really, really want. I really wanted Shades of Blue to shine tonight.
We’ll find other opportunities, and we’ll pick back up and move forward again. But we’ll also do what’s responsible, which means testing when we’re sick and isolating when we’re positive. I’m incredibly proud of my student for doing the right thing, even if that means we lost this concert.
These are the times we’re living in.
