Take 10 minutes and breathe.
I’m not talking about meditation – we aren’t going to be mindful of our breaths. Not exactly.
Take 10 minutes and listen to your breaths. Can you breathe silently?
It was my assertion to a choir earlier this year that 10 minutes, invested once, could lead to consistently breathing silently in choral rehearsal and performance for the rest of their lives. Studio sessions, live solo performance – all would benefit from silent breathing, or at least from breathing which is only audible when desired to be so.
Take 10 minutes, learn to breath silently, and rejoice in the happiness you bring to every conductor, audience member, and fellow chorister you share your singing with.
That’s a lot of benefit for 10 minutes of work.
