Superpower

The other day two of my kids left our choir’s Cabaret show weepy because of a particularly beautiful song. Of course they wanted to listen again when we got home, and my youngest was crying all over again.

I pointed out, in an attempt to give perspective, that there is a person who, ten or twelve years ago, put down splotches of ink on a page, and those splotches, today made you feel deep emotions.

That, I think, is a true superpower that musicians have. The superpower to make you feel deep, real emotions, just from an effective layout of pitch, rhythm, and text.

Thanks, Adam Gwon, for this particularly gut-wrenching use of your superpower.
