Studio Recording Tips & Tricks

Studio recording is an entirely different experience from either performance or rehearsal. You’ll hear new things, have new reactions, and learn a ton. That’s why I love to take my students into the studio. But they’re almost always always new to the experience, so I start by giving a few basic tips & tricks.

  1. Wear quiet clothes (and layers because studios get warm)
  2. Bring water to stay hydrated.
  3. Bring your music for reference.
  4. Deodorant good. Fragrances bad.
  5. Arrive on time & ready to work! 5 minutes early is 10 minute late…
  6. The most important part of this process is listening to and following instructions quickly. Pacing is what gets the sessions done.
  7. Singing with studio headphones on takes getting used to – you’ll probably singing with one ear on, one ear off.
  8. Bring your most flexible, open mindset so you can keep moving forward.
  9. You will get frustrated and you will overcome it.
