Spring Break Watch #4 – Joni

Spring Break is a great time to catch up.

One thing you could do is remember that the internet is a repository of all sorts of “long-form” video as well…and maybe you have time to watch some of it now! Over this Spring Break, I’ll be recommending some amazing concert videos that are well-worth your time.

Today: Joni Mitchell (1970)

Wow, what a time capsule. This was a remarkable era for Joni (her transformative album Blue would come out nine months later, and her performance is a mix of songs from that album and her previous albums Ladies of the Canyon, Clouds, and Song to a Seagull.

I saw Joni live once, in 2001 on her Both Sides Now tour – with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Her singing by then was completely transformed, and still indelible. As it has been in recent concerts! But this is a special era, and to hear it live is a gift from YouTube.
