I am interested in giving my students more opportunities to speak in front of an audience as part of an ensemble – and the best way to do that is to introduce a song in our set. Here’s a template for the pieces I’d like to hear in a student song intro.
“Thank you. My name is [Name] and I’m a [Graduation Class/Major]. The soloist(s) you just heard was/were [Soloist Name(s)]. Our next piece is [Name of piece] by [Composer/Arranger]; [Fact about piece].”
In practice:
“”Thank you. My name is Bonnie H. and I’m a Junior. The soloists you just heard were Gene and Clark. Our next piece is Voice Dance by Greg Jasperse; it’s a wordless vocal jazz piece, and it might surprise you to know that it was originally written as a wedding processional!”
