This is what I said to my son the other day as he was groaning about piano practice.
“You’re going to be sitting there until your timer goes off. You get to decide whether you want to be better at the end or not.”
It’s a question each of us faces every single day, in whatever skill we want to improve. Do you want to be better tomorrow than today?
Here’s the framework:
- Remove the distractions.
- Sit down at your challenge.
- Set a timer.
Don’t get up until the timer goes off. When it rings, will you be the same person as you are now?
Enough days of waiting for the timer and you’ll make a decision: start getting better, or stop trying.
